If you live in a residential area, especially one that has small children and pets playing outside, then you’re probably familiar with many of the dangers associated with drivers who ignore the posted speed limits operating their vehicles at unsafe speeds. It may seem like these folks are always in a hurry, but often they don’t have a good reason for speeding other than they just prefer driving faster than the law and community standards dictate they should. And far too often, these unsafe drivers get away with it.
However, one concerned grandmother in Montana decided it was time that drivers respect the speed limit on her block. So Patti Baumgartner grabbed her trusty hairdryer and posted herself next to the roadway. She later told KPAX that she was desperate to stop people from speeding in her neighborhood. “We were talking about maybe something would slow the cars down. So, we decided to put me in a chair, and I guess use the hairdryer as a speed thing.”

Trooper Noah Pesola came across the photo of Baumgartner doing her best to help make her neighborhood a bit safer for children and pets. He was so impressed by her gusto that he found Baumgartner and gave her a sticker badge as well as a campaign hat, making her an honorary trooper!
I was able to find Ms. Patti.

Pesola told KPAX:
“I thought it was hilarious. I think that we have a speed issue in Montana, and I thought it was a great creative idea for the public to try and combat that a little bit without making people too upset.”
It’s uncertain if Baumgartner’s hairdryer really deterred drivers from speeding, but she said she’d happily do it again the next time she feels the need to blow-dry her point across. SLOW IT DOWN, for goodness sakes people!
