Tiny Dancer Channels Her Inner Aretha Franklin And Nails This Dance With Style

When was the last time that you had the opportunity to dance in front of somebody else? Some of us may have to look the whole way back to high school or perhaps even to a middle school dance! Those tend to be rather awkward moments when we line ourselves along the gymnasium wall and nobody wants to be the first one to get out on the dance floor. If you remember, however, there was always a small group of people that just seemed to always be dancing and perhaps that is where little Joanna is heading.

When you see Joanna Colon from North Carolina, you can’t help but be surprised at the amount of attitude that she brings to the performance. She is standing on the stage with a little pink leotard suit and a wonderful little polka dot tutu. When the music starts playing, it is Aretha Franklin and her iconic song, Respect. I don’t know about you, but that song always gets me fired up and obviously, Joanna feels much the same.

This is one of those dance recitals that parents absolutely love seeing. Fortunately, the father didn’t keep everything to himself but rather, he started recording from the beginning. More than likely, he knew what was coming and Joanna did not disappoint.

From the very beginning, Joanna was pointing and strutting her stuff across the stage. The entire audience was laughing, applauding and cheering at her performance. There is no doubt that she is a sassy little girl and between the finger-pointing and the hip shaking, we are all smiles.

Her mother said that Joanna had worked on the routine at home so many times that it was second nature to her. It also gave her mother the opportunity to teach her about Aretha Franklin. Joanna loved the fact that Aretha had a lot of sass.

Perhaps what is funniest about this performance is the lip-synching that is also taking place while she is dancing. She is throwing her hands around in the air and shaking her hips. Everybody loves it.

As she continues to immerse herself into the routine, you can hear her father yelling, “That’s My Girl!” In the end, she gives a wonderful pose and the crowd absolutely loses it. She received a standing ovation from the 400 people in attendance.

Joanna was only six when she performed this routine but she started dancing when she was two years old. Watch the video below and you will see her dedication to the art of dancing:
