Is there anything Neil Patrick Harris can’t do? While for most folks, that would be a rhetorical question, in his case, it’s not. Not only is he a great actor, but he’s also a singer, host, dancer, producer, writer, and magician! As a kid, Harris says that he was “smitten” when he paid a visit to a local magic shop called “Fool’s Paradise.” He would save up money he received from his allowance and make his way to the store to stock up on tricks and cards. And ever since that time, Harris has always tried to promote, produce, and shine the spotlight on magicians and the art of magic.
And currently, he’s written three books, aimed at sharing his love of magic with young adult readers. In the third novel of his “Magic Misfits” series, titled “The Minor Thrid,” Harris thrills his readers with a story about magic, intrigue, villains, and the unshakable bond of friendship between a rag-tag group of tween heroes. Harris says that “Reading and literacy and literature and the tactile book has always been something that’s been really important to me growing up.” In this video, Harris sits down with Ellen to talk about his book and to give her audience a little magic show.

As the video begins, Ellen and Harris are talking about “Magic Misfits: The Minor Third,” and the author shares the basic premise of the book and the moral lessons he wishes for young readers to take away from it. He then takes out a deck of playing cards and proceeds to astound Ellen with an incredible trick that no one saw coming!
