Neil Patrick Harris has to be one of if not the most talented entertainer in Hollywood. He can do it all, sing, dance, act, comedy, stuntwork, magic (yes, he can do magic). This guy is all over the place, and fans can’t get enough of him. And the thing I really love about NPH is that he’s a larger than life character who mostly plays himself. During an interview with India Today, NPH said that he’s actually a lot like his character on How I Met Your Mother, Barney Stimpson. The actor noted that he was probably “equally as sardonic and always looking for a joke.” However, he also pointed out that he’s a lot more settled down than his character.
In many ways, NPH is a lot like Dwayne Johnson’s “The Rock” character, which the pro-wrestling actor describes as an exaggerated version of his real personality. Here are just a few interesting facts about NPH. Before hosting an awards show, his routine involves mediating and drinking lots of Red Bull. In fact, NPH has a free lifetime supply of the energy drink because of all the free advertising he’s given the company over the years. Now some folks may wonder why he uses all three of his names, the story behind this practices goes back to when he was being credited for his role as himself in the film “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.” He told the studio to credit him by his full name because he didn’t want people to think he was anything like his over-the-top character in real life. I’d say that strategy backfired! In this video, we see NPH as he’s hosting the 2012 Tony Awards.
In the video, NPH drops down on a line posed as Spiderman (a character who he’s actually the voice for in an animated series). While hanging upside down, the host introduces the chairman of the American Theatre Wing, Ted Chapin, and Honorary Chair, five-time Tony winner Angela Lansbury. As they make their way to the microphone, NPH is seen being lifted up in the background. However, it soon becomes apparent that something went “wrong” as he’s once again lowered and can be seen complaining to one of the crew members on stage about his situation as Chapin and Lansbury continue their remarks.
You can check out the hilarious clip of NPH hanging around a bit too long at the Tonys in the video below.
