One of my favorite sitcoms on TV is ABC’s Modern Family. For me, being a big fan of Married with Children, anything with Ed O’Neal (who plays Jay Pritchett) is bound to get my attention, and in this show, he manages to bring back a lot of the “Al Bundy” magic I loved watching as a kid, but with a unique comedic dynamic. And the key to this new dynamic is Sofia Vergara, who plays Gloria Delgado, his second wife in the show. Sofia is not only one of the most gorgeous women on TV, but she’s a natural when it comes to comedy. Seriously, I was surprised to learn that she never did stand-up, much like Bill Murray.
Sofia’s timing and comedic reactions remind me of Lucille Ball in many ways. She’s so animated, loud, and over-the-top that you can’t help but laugh at some of her character’s crazy situations. Plus, she has that trademark thick Columbian accent that only adds to her character’s humor. I know a lot of folks make a big deal out of her physical attributes, but seriously, I think she’s a very underrated talent who more than deserves her own show one day! Personally, I would have loved to see her doing improve back in the days of “Whose Line Is it Anyway.” An episode featuring Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, and Sofia Vergara would have had millions of folks using oxygen to breathe! In this video, we see Julie Bowen, who plays Claire Dunphy (Pritchett’s daughter), show off her spot-on Sofia Vergara impersonation.

During an interview with the most of the cast, Ellen Degeneres asked Sofia about her accent as she joked how it’s gotten much thicker as the years have gone on. After the break, Ellen asked the cast who did the best Sofia Vergara impersonation. Almost, immediately everyone pointed to Bowen. She recounts a hilarious conversation she had earlier with Sofia in which they discussed what they were going to wear on the show and mimicked her accent perfectly!
