In the world of fashion, there are few things more cringe-worthy for many folks than tight pants. Of course, that can all depend on who’s wearing them. Some folks can pull off the fashion much better than others. But you may be surprised to learn that tight-fitting pants have been around for quite a sometime dating all the way back to the 17th century. They were introduced in the court of French monarch Louis XIII, and soon, the fashion found it’s way to England and into the rest of Europe. These tight-fitting trousers were very popular among the upper classes.
Over time, they fell in and out of fashion and have been known by many different names such as pantaloons, cigarette pants, drainpipes, tight pants, stovepipes, pencil pants, skinnies, and skinny jeans, just to name a few. Back in 2012, Jimmy Fallon and Will Farrell both starred in a hilarious Tonight Show sketch called “Tight Pants.” The premise of the sketch involved Fallon and Farrell dancing and singing about who wears a pair of white tight-fitting pants the best. The sketch quickly became a fan favorite, with the men reprising it again in 2016 with Christina Aguilera. However, before that reprisal, Fallon did a version with Jennifer Lopez back in 2014, in which she replaced Farrell.
The sketch begins with Fallon starting off by himself, doing the twist while singing about his tight pants. “Everybody’s talkin’ bout my tight pants; I got my tight pants, I got my tight pants on.” However, he’s soon joined by a twisting Lopez (who shoes off her super-advanced dancing skills by making with a version of the twist that would break my ankles and throw out my back in about four places). As the two sings about their tight pants, things start getting a little heated, as Lopez loses her patience with her tight-pant rival and goes full thug-life on Fallon, who eventually scoots away in fear.
