When it comes to Rock & Roll icons, there are a lot of names to choose from. You have music acts like Elvis Presley, the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Queen, just to name a few. However, one superstar from the earliest eras of rock still enjoying immense success is Elton John. It’s hard to deny that the “Rocketman” is one of the most distinguished Rock & Roll superstars in history, with a style and flare no one can duplicate. Elton John’s career has one of the most intriguing origin stories out there. He began by playing at a piano bar inside a hotel when he was only 15 years old. During this time, he was simply known as Reggie, as his real name is Reginald Kenneth Dwight.
And even though he had perfectly normal vision, he took to wearing horned-rimmed glasses as a teenager to inmate one of his rock idols, Buddy Holly. When he was starting out, John was in a band called Bluesology. In the band, there was a saxophone player by the name of Elton Dean, so John decided to take his first name. And his new last name of “John” was the first name of the band’s lead singer, John Baldry. And when he legally changed his name, he also decided to change his middle name to Hercules. In this video, we see Elton John driving around Los Angeles with James Corden on a rainy day.
