If there’s one thing most of us love to do once in a while driving alone, it’s sing. No matter who you are or how much you don’t like to sing, whenever someone is listening to their favorite tune while driving, it’s an almost involuntary response to start singing a few notes. Of course, no one else can hear you, nor is it likely anyone’s paying much attention to you, which makes singing while driving the perfect time to practice those otherwise ill-advised high notes. Personally, I don’t sing anywhere other than my car. I have the vocal range of a rock, but when I’m in my car, none of that matters. After all, it’s not like Simon Cowell’s suddenly going to appear in my backseat!
The Late Late Show with James Corden took this common practice and turned it into a brilliant concept for a segment called Carpool Karaoke. During these segments, Corden would drive around with different guests from the worlds of entertainment and politics. The segment would start off as a normal talk show interview, but end up with both Corden and his guest singing to a song together as it plays over the radio. In this video, Corden’s guest is Grammy Award-winning artist Ed Sheeran.

As the video begins, Corden is calling Sheeran from his car to complain that the singer left his guitar at his house the other night. As the two take off, Corden puts on some music, and of course, it’s Ed’s hit song “Shape of You,” which the talk show host describes as a “sexy song.” As the two men start singing and grooving to the tune, Sheeran gets very “friendly” with the blushing host.
