We have seen a lot of interesting game shows over the years but perhaps one of the more noteworthy is Supermarket Sweep. It was a show that many of us watched in the afternoons in order to pass some time and we may even have got hooked on the show because it was so much excitement going on. It was a popular show back in the 80s and people were able to win some great prizes if they could get through the supermarket maze as expected. Of course, emotions were running high and most people were nervous, so there was always something interesting happening in the background.
Although Supermarket Sweep was a very popular show, most people didn’t realize what was taking place in the studio audience while they were competing. Although it seemed as if there was a large studio audience, they were all paid extras and that is why most people didn’t seem overly excited while the people were being called down to play. They would also tape a number of the episodes at one time so that the studio audience could be dismissed and the people would basically be playing in a quiet studio. The applause and cheers would be added in later.
It was always a lot of fun to watch Supermarket Sweep, and that includes the special episode that you see in the video below. It isn’t special because it was any different than the other episodes, it’s just that the person who posted it on YouTube actually played in the show. He is the young boy in the middle who admitted that he had not run in recent memory prior to the show, so he was a little out of breath.
In the end, the winners of Supermarket Sweep get a big check and get to go home to spend it. The people who did not win only end up with a sweatshirt, so you either win or you don’t when you play the game. Watch this episode of Supermarket Sweep for yourself.
