Throughout the history of music, there have been some amazing songs that are the product of collaborations between some of the biggest stars. Two names that probably came to mind almost immediately after you read the last sentence are John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Or perhaps you thought of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel? Now, granted not every artist collaboration can work, it takes a certain type of chemistry between two artistic minds to create a great song that they both can hear in unison inside their heads. This is much easier said than done, especially when you have artists with two very different styles of music.
One excellent example of how two worlds can come together to make great music is the collaboration between Bruno Mars and Adele for the song “All I Ask.” Now, when we think of Bruno Mars, the first song that probably comes to mind is “Uptown Funk.” This is a far cry from “Someone Like You,” which may be the first song that comes to mind when we think of Adele. But as odd as this team-up may seem, in 2015, it produced an incredible result! In 2015, Adele released her third album titled “25.” The song was actually a collaboration between Adele, Bruno Mars, Christopher Brody Brown, and Phillip Lawrence. In this video, we see Adele and Bruno Mars giving separate performances of “All I Ask.” The video was edited to blend both singers together as if they were singing a duet together. And I must say the editing was absolutely flawless!
The song talks about a singer searching for one last night with her lover before the couple split apart. The song was received a ton of praise from most critics. Liz Rowley of Yahoo News’ wrote that the song emotes “a solid sense of accepting love lost, and clears up the dreadful finality that resignation brings with it,” and stated that it “arrives at an emotional plane that’s devastating yet utterly relatable.”
