In the music industry, there are some legends past and present that seem to define what it is to be a consummate professional. Two of those legends are Sting and Lady Gaga. Although Sting is a veteran performer who’s over 60 years old and has been performing for over half his life, Lady Gaga is very much his junior and in the prime of her career. She’s come a long way since she was a college student studying music, and her career has been bright and brilliant. As of 2020, she has won 11 Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, an Academy Award, and even an Emmy Award for her role in American Horror Story as an actress. If you’ve never seen the season that featured Lady Gaga, I highly recommend it.
Sting’s career spans decades, but his career is no less spectacular. As a member of “The Police,” Sting was one of the pioneers of the 80s new wave rock. Throughout his career, he has earned 17 Grammy Awards. In addition to his Grammys, Sting has won a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award. He’s been nominated for Academy Award for Best Original Song four times. Luckily for us, Lady Gaga and Sting team up occasionally to deliver unbelievable duets that rock the world. In the video below, the pair sings “Stand By Me” in a way you’ve probably never heard it done before.
Lady Gaga says, “Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Sting,” and the crowd goes insane. As she continues to introduce Sting, she says that she’s met several people in the industry, including some true legends. However, they’re not always very nice, she says. But she describes Sting as one of the kindest people in the world. She goes on to say that Sting always stands by her.
When Lady Gaga begins to sing, she owns this classic song as few ever have before. Her piano playing gives the song a new and fresh vibe, too. When Sting stars singing, he continues with the fresh sound that Gaga started when she started singing. Watch an incredible performance by two living legends below.
