Some of the biggest names in pop music are known by only one name. For example, you’ve got Elvis, Adele, Madonna, Pink, Sting, and of course, the legendary Cher. And over the course of her amazing career, the singer has become the master of re-invention as she’s able to reimagine herself throughout all the changing times. During the ’70s, she was a disco queen, and then in the ’80s, she transitioned over to more of a pop style while branching out her talents into the realm of acting with incredible performances in films like “Mask,” which earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. However, it was her performance in the classic ’88 film Moonstruck that earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
And for decades, Cher had inspired generations of fans as well as more than a few up-in-coming artists. In fact, Cher’s credited for making auto-tune a thing in music (love it or hate it) with her hit 1998 single “Believe.” Other artists, such as Will.I.Am, T-Pain, and Kanye West were soon using this new musical trend in their own art. And when it comes to “sexual imagery,” Cher arguably set the standard way before Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball,” with her music video for “If I Could Turn Back Time,” which shows her straddling a huge cannon! To honor this great pop music pioneer, another pop legend in Cyndi Lauper joined with fast-rising superstar Adam Lambert to pay tribute to Cher during a performance of “I Got You Babe” at the 41st Annual Kennedy Center Honors Award Show in 2018.
Lauper walks out arm in arm with Lambert, and she’s looking as fantastic as ever with her puffy platinum blonde curls along with a sexy black and red leather jacket. While Lambert wore a simple but stylish black suit and black shirt, these two superstars had the star-studded crowd dancing and singing along to the song that made Cher and her late ex-husband Sonny Bono ’70s icons.
