When a young man named Raden Soemawinata went to the Brighton pier in Melbourne, Australia, his intention was to scatter his late grandmother’s ashes over the water and pay his respects to his beloved grandmother. However, while he was there, he witnessed something that terrified a bunch of onlookers. The winds were strong that day, with estimates saying they got up to about 60 miles an hour, and they were powerful. So powerful, in fact, that they swept a small dog off the pier and into the water. The dog, Bibi, is a Maltese-shitzu who was enjoying a walk with his human companion, Sue Drummond.
The wind picked up Bibi and tossed him effortlessly in the choppy water of the bay. Bibi was in trouble. As Sue was panicking on the pier, Raden was calmly removing his shoes and his pants. He left on only his shirt and his underwear, and without hesitation, the young man jumped into the water to try to save Bibi. The little dog was terrified and could barely keep his head above water. Sue said that she hesitated to jump in after Bibi because she feared she would never make it back to shore while trying to save a struggling and panicked dog. As Sue and onlookers watch anxiously, Raden was finally able to grab Bibi.
When Raden got the little dog to a safe spot, he held tightly to him as he gave Sue the chance to kneel down and pull her fur baby back up to her. When Raden got out of the water, a sobbing Sue hugged him tightly in gratitude. It seems that Bibi had a guardian angel looking out for him that day. He’s now back home safe and dry where he belongs.
Raden went to the pier that day to save one life, but he was blessed to be in the position to save another. Some folks may say it was only a dog, but I believe that every living being’s life has value. Watch the video below.
