Tiny Baboon Falls Into Lion’s Lap

When was the last time you were amazed by something that an animal did? Some of us who have animals in our home are amazed on a daily basis but sometimes, we may see something in the wild that amazes us in ways that we can’t even imagine. When we see these events, often in a video, it helps us to see that animals are compassionate and are capable of extraordinary kindness toward each other. This is one of those stories and it comes out of Botswana, Africa.

Evan Schiller and Lisa Holzwarth are wildlife photographers who saw something that was so amazing, they never could’ve expected it to happen. Fortunately, they had all of the equipment necessary to take some incredible pictures and they have been spreading online like wildfire. It started when a lioness attacked some baboons, capturing and killing one female baboon as she did so. It didn’t take long before it became clear that the female was not alone. She still had a tiny baby clinging to her body.

The baby baboon tried to escape and climb a tree but he was too weak and small to do so.

The lioness immediately shifted her attention over to the baby baboon.

The photographers thought that the lioness was going to devour the little baboon immediately.

What happened is something that nobody could have anticipated. The lioness approached the tiny baboon with curiosity and gentleness. Before long they were playing with each other.

The lioness was very gentle as she picked him up in her mouth and carried him away from the tree. Before long they were cuddling.

It almost seems as if the baby baboon considered the lioness to be its new mother. It also seems as if the lioness had some maternal instincts kicking in as well.

It wasn’t long before a male lion showed up but the lioness chased him off quickly. You can see it in this picture.

As this was taking place the baboon’s father was able to come down out of his tree, grab the baby and climb back up the tree to safety.

It’s amazing to think that the baby baboon was rescued by a lioness and then by his own father.

This event shows us that animals certainly do have the ability to show kindness in ways that you would never expect.
