We never quite know what we’re going to find and sometimes, the real treasures we have in life come from the most unexpected areas. That is what this woman discovered one day in 2016. She wasn’t expecting anything unusual to happen that day but suddenly, she had a most amazing experience dropped right in her lap. It started when she heard some mewing coming from a dumpster and when she checked, she found a tiny, week-old calico kitten. The kitten had a broken front leg and gangrene on its back paw.
She couldn’t stand the sight of this suffering little kitten so she took it home and begin caring for it. The kitten was so young that it didn’t even have its eyes open yet and eventually, it lost the back paw because of the gangrene. Even though it suffered from a rather difficult beginning, the front leg healed and soon, this amazing kitty started growing and growing. She named him Martyr.
Nobody is really sure how Martyr ended up in the dumpster or what happened to the other kittens in the litter but he was really very fortunate that day.
The woman was accustomed to fostering kittens but Martyr was so adorable that she decided to give him a forever home.
Martyr was full of surprises and perhaps one of the first surprises is the fact that he was male. Most calicos are female but he was beating the odds.
Only about one out of every 3000 calico’s are male. In most cases, they are also sterile. Martyr continued to grow up as a healthy calico and continued to gain strength.
After the story of Martyr was posted online, it went viral. He was only three months old when he gained Internet fame and he was instantly a hit. We are just happy that this beautiful little kitten is healthy and happy in his new, forever home.
