If there is one thing that children love, it is toys. More than likely, they have many toys available and they may take the time to play with all of them. They also probably have a favorite and it is precious to them. They probably wouldn’t consider trading it for anything and they are not likely very far away from it. For some, it is a teddy bear and for others, it could be something as simple as a blanket.
This is something that most children deal with in their lives and if that toy should ever happen to get lost, it would cause a lot of distress. In fact, when it comes time to clean the toy or blanket, we have to wait until they are napping or in school to do it. It appears that this isn’t only something that human children have to deal with, it even is true in the animal kingdom as well.
This can be seen in a most adorable way in a baby panda, named Xiao Liwu. He happens to love his little green ball and doesn’t want to let it go. He holds onto it, rolls it around and spends as much time with the ball as possible. When he is resting, he will hold the ball close against his chest and it is easy to see that it brings him much comfort. This just makes him the sweetest bear that we have ever seen.
Xiao Liwu is a baby Panda from the San Diego Zoo. He was born at the zoo in 2002 and has called it home ever since. If you were to visit Xiao today, you would see that he is full grown as a Giant Panda but back when this video was taken, he was only a few months old. Xiao is part of an effort to keep a healthy Panda population alive.
Giant Pandas are considered to be endangered and they are vulnerable, as their natural range is very small. They live in Central China in just a handful of mountain ranges and they are being developed, so the area is shrinking. Nobody knows how many are alive but some estimates put the population as low as 1,500.
China has been shipping out Pandas to other parts of the world to help maintain the population. When a new Panda comes to a zoo, there is a lot of excitement that goes along with it. They will build special habitats and have a team of people to care for the animals. These conservation efforts are very important to keep the Giant Pandas from disappearing.
