Out Of This World Photos Of Horses Living Life In The Frigid Iceland Countryside

Ask anyone who saw the Disney movie, Frozen and they will tell you there was something magical about it. We’re not quite sure if it is the music, the animation or just the fact that it comes from Disney, but we would have to agree. If you really get down to it, however, snow and ice have always had a rather magical quality and it tends to captivate our attention. Just imagine watching the snow fall and you will know exactly what I mean.

Drew Doggett, a New York City-based photographer and filmmaker decided to capture the beauty of the frozen earth in a photo series entitled ‘In the Realm of Legends‘. It was in that photo series where he highlighted the relationship between the land and horses. Although it was his first time visiting Iceland, he seemed to get the lay of the land quite easily. He said: “Throughout all of my work, I find that I am consistently drawn towards places on Earth that are near-impossible. Iceland is a surreal place, and the horses are the perfect companions to this unusual yet breathtaking land; the combination of the two is truly unforgettable.”

“In many ways I was drawn to Iceland (and my photography career) because of my interest in adventure – one I’ve had since I was a child. Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea was one of the many books I read and re-read knowing that I wanted adventure in my own life one day.”

Fantasy may be beautiful but it is not necessarily easy. Drew said that he planned the photo shoot for months and it presented some unique challenges.

“Other than the innate challenges of documenting animals, the unpredictability of Iceland’s weather was the most challenging aspect of creating this series… I had to make the best of every single opportunity in front of me, because it wouldn’t be long before the rain fell or the wind picked up to the point of us needing to find shelter.”

When you look down through the pictures below, you will see that his efforts really paid off.
