In this world, we tell our children to dream big and work hard to make their dreams come true. But quite often we can’t prepare them for the discouragement they face on the road to those dreams. The truth is that setbacks and failures are the building blocks to the most successful goals. Those who learned to overcome or find solutions to problems usually progressively end up in better places until they are where they want to be. However, facing adversity is something that’s much easier said than done, as it often derails many dreams before they can even get off the ground. Sometimes, looking at the challenge before us can seem overwhelming, like looking at a daunting mountain that we must climb.
For the little donkey in this old Budweiser commercial, the dream of becoming a part of their world-famous Clydesdale team was one he discovered one day when he saw them marching down the road by his stable. From that moment on, the little donkey trained night and day, pulling carts with strategically placed Budweiser six-packs (hey it’s a commercial, after all). His owner even made him unique leggings to resemble the trademark Clydesdale look. The little guy was driven.
The big day finally arrived, when the donkey would stand in front of his heroes, the Budweiser Clydesdales, in what was quite an intimidating job interview. The horses looked like giants as they looked down on the tiny donkey. However, the little guy didn’t hesitate, after all, he had worked very hard to get to this moment, and he wasn’t about to be denied. He let out a couple of adorable brays toward the towering Clydesdales. They all looked at each other, and the next thing you know, the little donkey is proudly leading the Clydesdale team as their mascot.
