If you have never had the opportunity to visit Kenya before, you are really missing out on something special. It is a very unique place in the world that is not only known for its culture, but it is also known for the wildlife that lives in the area. One of the animals that are special in Kenya is the giraffe and it is a great place to spot them in the wild. That is also true of these rare white giraffes that have been captured on camera for the first time in history.
A mother and child giraffe are seen walking in the Ishaqbini Hirola Conservancy in Kenya. The giraffes suffer from a genetic condition that stops pigmentation from taking place. It is known as Leucism and it doesn’t happen very often. There have been reports about white giraffes in the area for quite some time but it wasn’t until sometime later that the video was taken by conservationists.
Although the giraffes are not able to produce the colorful pigment that is seen in other giraffes due to Leucism, it is not a genetic issue that would give them a survival disadvantage. In fact, about half of all giraffes do not live beyond the age of six months due to targeting by predators, including hyenas and lions.
