Photographer Spots Extremely Rare White Baby Reindeer And The Pictures Are Stunning

When was the last time you went out for a hike? Many people do so when the weather is nice but what if you lived in a cold area of the world? Would you be as quick to go out into nature and see what it had to offer? Thankfully, photographer Mads Nordsveen was not only willing to venture out into the wilderness, but he was also able to capture some photographs that are beyond beautiful.

Nordsveen was hiking in Oslo, Norway when he came across a rare sighting. In his words: “I was walking in the mountains looking for nice landscapes for my travel photography when out of nowhere I saw this wonderful little creature.” Considering the fact that they were in a wintry wonderland, the animal was almost completely camouflaged. At the same time, the photographer said that he didn’t try to hide and he even seemed to be posing for some of the pictures.

As it turns out, Nordsveen got something very special from the experience: “He came very close to me and we looked at each other straight in the eyes,” he recalled, “After some minutes the mother of the baby reindeer came out of trees just behind. It walked around for some minutes before running back to its mother. It was very magical and a fairy tale moment.”

It is an unusual genetic mutation that removes the pigmentation from the fur and allows the animal to blend into the background. They aren’t albinos, because they still have dark pigmentation in the antlers and eyes.

This isn’t the first time he was able to meet a rare animal up close and personal. He also met wolves and a Lynx in northern Norway.
