Mom Dog Found Chained To Fence Along With Her Puppies

Those of us who have dogs in our life could never imagine a time when we would want to abandon them and leave them to live on their own. It seems as if it is just something beyond our reasoning but unfortunately, we continue to hear about cases in which it happens over and over again. At times, they may be abandoned at a local shelter and at other times, they could be abandoned and left on their own in a much different place. That was the case with this dog, and the story is sure to raise the hairs on the back of your neck.

This is more than a case of animal neglect, it is a case of abandonment that will break your heart. It happened in County Roscommon, Ireland when a mother dog was found chained to a fence. If that wasn’t bad enough, there were six new born puppies still nursing by her side. The mother was having a difficult time, not only struggling to stay alive in such a bad situation but she was also trying her best to care for the puppies as they were feeding.

Somebody who was passing by and took notice of what happened alerted the ISPCA. That organization then stepped in to care for the canine family. They also shared the story on Facebook along with pictures and people were outraged at what they saw.

“This has to be the saddest picture I have ever seen,” one person wrote. “[And] that is saying a lot with so much cruelty around us.”

“Look at the fear and vulnerability in the poor dogs eyes,” another added “Darling animal. Am crying seeing this.”

ISPCA kept updating on the situation and they had some good news. Aside from being a little hungry, the mother dog, Emmy Lou and her puppies, Billy Ray, Dixie, Dolly, Dotty, June and Patsy were all healthy.

“To the kind-hearted animal lover who discovered them and alerted the Gardai and the ISPCA, we are so grateful,” they wrote. “We can’t help them without you so please continue to report cruelty, neglect or abuse.”

“Leaving a young dog only two years old tied up without water, food or shelter most definitely put her along with her young puppies’ lives at risk,”
ISPCA Center Manager Hugh O’Tool said. “I don’t understand how anyone can think it is okay to leave a dog tied to a gate to nurse her puppies.”

“With the recent level of rainfall and cold weather this week, the outcome could have been very different and I’m happy we were alerted so we could help them.”
