There are plenty of things that to be afraid of in this life but perhaps the one that more people are afraid of than any other is spiders. The phobia of spiders, known as arachnophobia, affects thousands, if not millions of people. Some individuals are so afraid of spiders that they freeze up when they spot one from across the room. I’ll have to admit, there is something about the eight legs moving in unison that creeps me out as well.
The fear of spiders does have one fear that is bigger, and that is a fear of heights. In this article, however, we’re going to trigger the phobia of individuals who don’t like being around spiders. In fact, even individuals who may not have a real problem with spiders might just be freaked out by what this man saw and took a video of in his neighbor’s kitchen.
It started when Jason took a video of something he saw on the side of a refrigerator when he was visiting his neighbor’s house. Rather than just keeping it to himself, he decided to share it and people have not been the same since.
Jason had been leaving for work when his neighbor asked him if he wanted to see something cool. It was a simple request but Jason knew that he had to go check it out.
When Jason went into his neighbor’s house, he was alarmed to see a spider carrying a mouse up the side of the refrigerator.
This is what nightmares are made of.
Although it seemed impossible, Jason couldn’t deny the fact that he was seeing it right in front of his face. The giant spider was dragging its prey up the side of the refrigerator. The fact that the mouse was stiff makes us think that it may have been dead before the spider found it but in either case, it’s an impressive feat.
What would you do if you saw a spider dragging a mouse up the side of the refrigerator? You would probably do the same thing Jason did, grab your smartphone and take a video.
The video was uploaded to Facebook and people have viewed it more than 23 million times.
Many of the people were deeply disturbed by what they saw. Some of the comments read:
“Oh, hell no.”
“For those afraid of mice and spiders, which one is worse?”
“This made my skin crawl.”
Jason added another post that confirmed the spider was unharmed. In fact, they named him Hermie. He wrote: “We have adopted him, and he is now running his own extermination business out of our town Coppabella. Oh, he is also now paying rent.”
Experts have weighed in and said the spider is a huntsman spider. They are found in warm climates but enjoy wooded areas more than any other. Typically, a huntsman spider is only an inch long but the “giant huntsman” can be as large as the dinner plate.
Huntsman spiders do not use a web but they ambush their prey. After attacking their target, they kill it with their mouthparts and a strong venom. You can identify a huntsman easily but Christy Bills, and invertebrae collections manager at the Natural Museum of Utah helps us with the description:
“Huntsman spiders usually have legs that are splayed out to the sides, crablike. In fact, huntsman spiders are also referred to as giant crab spiders.”
