Seals are, without a doubt, adorable creatures, but for a very long time, they’ve gotten undue attention because of a prevalent misconception. You see, most folks think that seals can be trained as circus performers. This myth was actually started by traveling circuses who advertised this misinformation to the public. And to be fair, the distinction between seals and the real performers, which have always been sea lions, might have been a bit to thin for our greedy animal exploiting friends to comprehend. Thankfully, most of these types of places have been shut down, and folks can still enjoy seeing sea lions at their local zoos and aquariums.
Sea lions are often called the “dogs of the sea” due to the unique barking sounds they make and the fact that they can be trained to perform tricks, just like a dog. These creatures can also “walk” on land, unlike their seal cousins who wiggle on their bellies. While Sea Lions are more friendly than seals, they can still be dangerous for folks to approach in the wild. Something to keep in mind if you encounter one in the wild is that they can bite ten times harder than dogs, and their mouths have more bacteria than any other mammal. However, the little girl in this 2013 video didn’t have to worry about that, as her sea lion friend was safely behind the aquarium’s protective glass.

In the video, we see the little girl running around playing a cute game of tag with the sea lion. The creature swims back and forth with such grace as he follows the little girl, until at the end of the video when she trips and falls down. He then stops and comes back to check and see if she’s okay.
