According to his website, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation was “designed with the idea of protecting the last wild places of the world and saving vulnerable wildlife from extinction.” It got its start in 1998 when the actor was only 24 years old and he already had concern over what was happening to the environment.
The foundation is responsible for coming up with hundreds of millions of dollars and the money has helped the environment in over 40 countries. DiCaprio continues to support this and other environmental organizations, including the World Wildlife Fund.
A recent announcement by DiCaprio is that he will make a financial investment of $15.6 million to help with the environment.
Ecoportal published the announcement last October. The money will be donated through his foundation and will help with animals that are on the verge of becoming extinct.
DiCaprio has been discussing the new environmental crisis in recent years and is becoming more vocal on the subject. Entire species are disappearing from the planet and ecosystems are becoming decimated.
Inland water is drying up due to severe weather, drought and heat and many climate refugees have resulted from those difficulties.
In addition to helping financially, he has also been outspoken on the need to improve legislation that will help with the environment as well.
It appears as if the latest financial donation by DiCaprio will help animals that are on the verge of becoming extinct or are about to become endangered. Those species, including elephants and giraffes are being poached in great numbers.
Unfortunately, more animals continue to make it on the list and some are being put on the list when it is almost too late to help save the species.
The donations given by DiCaprio bring hope to many people that a difference is going to be made. There are many projects that need to continue, and although he has met with criticism in the past, he also tends to face the issues with honesty.
