Most of us likely have a story about how we brought a dog into our life. Some of us may buy them from breeders and others may find them from somebody in our local area. There are also those who go to the animal shelters and choose a dog that just needs a forever home. Unfortunately, not every dog at those shelters is able to find such a kind individual and many of them are suffering, malnourished and underweight.
Even though some dogs are neglected and brought into animal shelters under horrible conditions, they still trust and remain affectionate toward humans. There are others, however, who are afraid to get close to a human because of the experiences that they have had in their life. It can be very difficult to see something like this happens because most of us could never even imagine harming an animal, let alone trying to determine why they may be having a difficulty.
Most people recognize that dogs have a rather unique ability. They can look at a person and size up whether they are good or bad. That is especially true of animals that may have been abused at some time in the past. Anybody who works with those animals understands that it is a good idea to let them make the first move. We may want to approach the dog to play with them but when they think we are trying to harm them, it is a difficult situation.
Edie is a dog who was abandoned and was abused. Unfortunately, she was also only hours away from being put to sleep. She also had a real fear of humans and it had been a long time since she felt comforted by a person. She was unkempt and malnourished.
Edie needed somebody special in her life that was willing to give her a second chance.
When you first start to watch this video, see if it is difficult to sit through. She is so afraid that she doesn’t know what to do. You can see her body shaking and she is barking to keep the man that is approaching away.
Finally, Edie is snared so that she can’t run away and he is now able to go right up to her.
Before long, they begin to build a little bit of trust between each other. She starts to understand that he isn’t there to hurt her but rather, he is there to help her. You can even almost detect the moment that she realizes she is not going to be put down.
