When a human loses a member of their family, they go through a grieving process. It is different for everybody, although some people have tried to define the grieving process and to make it somewhat standard for all people who suffer from it. In reality, however, it’s something that we were never designed to go through so it can be devastating to feel those feelings and to experience the problems of having to deal with not having that special someone around any longer. If we, as thinking individuals, go through so much difficulty with the loss of a loved one, imagine what it is like for a dog.
That factor became very clear when we saw what happened with a German Shepherd in Siberia. Ever since the dog was a puppy, her owner had cared for her and had given her all the love and attention that she could possibly want. When the owner started to get sick, however, it became increasingly evident to the German Shepherd that something was seriously wrong. The owner’s health was deteriorating quickly but regardless of how bad it got, the dog always stayed by her side. It was an absolutely incredible thing to witness and she was faithful, even up till death and beyond.
When the owner passed away, he was taken to the local cemetery for burial. As you can imagine from such a faithful animal, the German Shepherd was right there for the funeral.
After the funeral ended, the dog refused to leave the grave of her owner. The owner’s children tried to get the dog to move and leave but she dug in and wasn’t going anywhere. They decided that they wouldn’t disturb her and they left her because, quite honestly, they didn’t care much about the dog. They did say that they would check back in every once in a while.
The first night after the burial took place the owner’s son came and saw something unusual. The German Shepherd had dug a little down on top of the grave but she still wouldn’t leave. He decided he would take a picture and share it on Facebook.
Millions of people saw the heartbreaking picture of the dog loyally sticking by her owner’s side, even after his death. There was one person who saw the picture who noticed something odd.
Vesna was the woman who saw the picture and thought that something might be wrong. She didn’t live far from the graveyard so she went over to take a look and when she arrived, her suspicions were confirmed. There were a number of dogs in the den.
During the first night that the German Shepherd was at the graveyard, she gave birth to a litter of puppies. Vesna told the son over Facebook but he didn’t want to take the dog in.
That is when Vesta decided she would look after the dog and take care of the puppies. They all needed help and even the mother dog was weak.
Thanks to Vesna’s tender loving care, the puppies and mother dog were back in good health quickly. She then found forever homes for all of the puppies but the mother dog because she realized how loyal and loving she was.
In essence, the dog had been abandoned by the son and daughter of the owner because they considered her to be an inconvenience.
It’s unfortunate that these things still go on in many parts of the world. We can just be thankful that this dog and her puppies were able to find good homes.
