One of the greatest pleasures we could have in life is to have a faithful dog by our side. From the moment that they become a part of our family, our lives are never going to be the same. Suddenly, we go from a fairly ‘normal’ life to having a big, slobbering, goofy animal under our feet at all times and the funniest thing is, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Many people who have dogs want to incorporate them into their lives in different ways so we aren’t surprised when we see them as part of a wedding.
When Bear’s parents found him, they were already engaged and starting the wedding planning process. They knew how much Bear meant to them so they decided he would also be a part of their special day. The plan was to have Bear walk down the aisle before his mom did so and they would offer a ‘dog biscuit’ bar and party favors at the reception. It was apparent that Bear would be a big part of the wedding so nobody was surprised when he found his way onto the wedding cake.
“We worked with the amazing Kake by Darci (based in Canmore, Alberta) and told her we wanted to incorporate Bear into our wedding cake,” Roisin Bicklmeier, Bear’s mom, told The Dodo. “I told her I had brought a little golden figurine and was wondering if she could put him on the back of the cake as a hidden detail doing something naughty, like dirty paw prints or whatever. She told me she would absolutely incorporate him, and I didn’t actually know what she was planning until I saw it on the day!”
Bicklmeier and Hunter, her fiance dressed up the dog and got him ready for the big day. We went down the aisle with the bride’s brother and had a hat that said: “Don’t worry ladies, I’m still single.” Everyone was in love with the big furry addition to the wedding.
The cake looked ‘normal’ on one side.
The back, however, had a bear figurine that made it look like he took a bite out of the cake.
“I absolutely loved it as Bear would have absolutely taken a bite out of the cake if he had the chance,” Bicklmeier said.
The cake turned out perfect and everyone loved it.
“The guests loved it,” Bicklmeier said. “In fact, as soon as we cut the cake everyone ran over and took photos of the back of the cake! They thought it was just super cute!”
Everyone was already in love with Bear but not they loved him even more.
“Bear had the best time at the wedding,” Bicklmeier said. “I’m pretty sure he thought it was just a party for him!”
Kake by Darci posted the picture of the cake on her Instagram account and it went viral.
The Bicklemeiers knew that Bear would take part in the wedding but everyone else learned how much while the wedding was taking place.
“It was super surreal seeing our cake everywhere but I’m just so glad everyone loved it,” Bicklmeier said. “It was such a special day to us and Bear is literally our child so we are just happy we could include him.”
