I think we could safely say that most of us have a special place in our heart for animals. Even people that don’t consider themselves to be ‘animal lovers’ still tend to love animals, even if they do so privately. The real question is, not if you love animals but how far out of your way you would go in order to help an animal. If you were to see an animal injured on the side of the road, how would you respond? Would you contact animal control or call 911? Thankfully, it’s something that most of us don’t have to deal with.
Patrick Hennessey was driving into work at 4:30 in the morning and he saw two pitbulls on the side of the road in Florida. One of the dogs seemed to be injured and he knew that he had to do something about it. He picked up his cell phone and dialed 911. Thankfully, the dogs didn’t have to wait long before somebody showed up because the sheriffs were on their way almost immediately.
Officers Boggs and Reed were the first to arrive on the scene and they found two pitbulls, one of which was badly injured. One of the dogs was sticking close to her friend and it took a while before they warmed up to the officers.
It looked as if the one dog had been struck by an automobile because she had a large cut in her leg. The officers worked together with Patrick to bandage the leg and fed them some snacks. It wasn’t long before the dogs were loving them.
The officers stayed with the dogs until animal services arrived. They let them know that the dogs were safe and that they would be taken care of.
After a little bit of rest and special care, the injured dog was back and visiting with Boggs and Reed. As soon as they arrived, the dogs remembered them and couldn’t stop giving them love.
People everywhere are thrilled with how kind and compassionate those officers were toward the dogs. You can see the reunion for yourself in this video:
