Cop Rescues ‘Unadoptable’ Dog From Shelter. 4 Years Later He Discovers Something Shocking In The Woods

Matthew Zarrella is a police officer and like many cops, he is interested in protecting the individuals who are in his community. As it turns out, however, it isn’t only humans who fall under his care, he also has a big heart for animals as well. That is why he took action when he heard about a shelter dog who was about to be put down. He just couldn’t stand the thought of that poor dog losing his life.

Although the dog was deemed ‘unadoptable’, this cop felt that the puppy had something to share. He was energetic and somewhat hyperactive but when the cop looked at him, he saw something extremely special. He decided to take an even closer look and before long, all of his suspicions were confirmed. When you see how this story continues to unfold, you will know that it is one of the most beautiful things that ever happened between a human and his dog.

Patricia Inman was a shelter worker and when she found out that this puppy was about to be put down, her heart was broken. She tried over and over again to train the dog and to calm him down so that somebody would take him into their home. She was desperate to find someone for this dog.

Some progress was made in the training but it was slow going. Only hours before this pooch was said to be euthanized, she knew that she had to do something quickly. That is when she called Rhode Island State trooper Matthew Zarrella, and begged him to adopt Ruby, the puppy that was about to lose his life. Little did she know that he wouldn’t turn her down.

When he arrived at the shelter, it was love at first sight. Admittedly, the dog was a little wild but he also recognized that she was extremely intelligent. He contacted another police officer and made a deal.

The other police officer, Daniel O’Neill, also loved dogs very much. In fact, he had been looking for a K-9 partner for years. When Zarrella offered that he could keep Ruby as his own dog, he was thrilled to get to know his new partner. In fact, he would devote the next 4 months to training his new K-9 partner. Although he was deemed unadoptable, it turns out that he was the best choice that the police officer could make.

Four years have passed since Ruby became a K-9 partner. It was then that the two of them set out in the woods to search for a missing teenager. Suddenly, Ruby turned off course and began barking urgently.

“We were a mile and a half into the woods when Ruby all of a sudden quickly darted.”

The officer was shocked that he was looking at the missing young man. He had been injured and needed care immediately. O’Neill may not have realized it at the time but Ruby shared a very deep connection with that stranger. When he knew who the man was, his heart dropped immediately.
