When we look at the world around us, we often marvel at everything that we see. It just seems that there are so many interesting things that we would never grow tired of them. Although we might consider looking in many different directions, there are many of us who marvel over elephants. Not only are they incredibly powerful creatures, they are also very smart as well. Their intelligence can be seen in the way they interact with each other and any humans in their life.
Elephants will wander in a pack, both for the company and for protection. The females tend to stick together closely but the males will be off on their own. They may do so from a young age and they will either be alone completely or they might band together with a few other males. These amazing creatures are loved by people around the world but unfortunately, they are also hunted and abused by some people as well.
That isn’t the case at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Inside of the confines of the park, elephants are cared for by volunteers and provided with plenty of comforts. Sometimes, you see special relationships forming between the handlers and elephants, and that is the case with Sangduen “Lek” Chailert. He is the founder of that natural park and he has an attachment with Faamai, one of those elephants.
The pair may be a mismatch when it comes to size but they get along beautifully. Lek swats the flies away from Faamai and he comforts her in an amazing way. Once the singing starts, a lullaby is chosen. It isn’t long before Lek is lulling that gentle giant off to sleep. Before long, Faamai lowers herself down slowly, while Lek continues his song.
It would appear that elephants are big fans of lullabies. In fact, the American Psychological Association conducted a study that showed classical music was soothing to Asian elephants. At one time, Eleanor Bartsch, a concert violinist, played for 2 elephants. Soon, they were swaying to the music.
Faamai continues to get comfortable but once she is one the ground, she does something unexpected. You can watch it all in this incredible video:
