Brave House Cat Sneaks Into Bear Enclosure At Zoo and They Both Become Instant Friends

Big, scary-looking bears and small non-threatening house cats seem like they would be natural enemies rather than friends. Based just on size alone, any bear easily dwarfs a cat, and while they may both have claws, a bear claw can measure anywhere from 1-4 inches long. If the two were to meet in the wild, one could safely assume the cat would run away while the bear would either ignore it or give chase. Which by the way, many bears can run up to 35 mph, so the cat may not have much of an advantage in that area either. But as with most things in life, things are not always as they may seem on the surface.

At the Berlin Zoo in Germany, a small black cat wandered into the enclosure of an Asiatic bear named Mauschen. And everyone was naturally concerned for the kitty’s safety. The cat, now named Muschi, was spotted sitting up in a tree on a branch inside the bear’s habitat by a zoo employee who was going in to feed the bear.

Soon zoo visitors noticed Muschi as well and it was only a matter of time before Mauschen caught wind of the little kitty’s presence.

Everyone looked on nervously as the 800-pound bear slowly began to head in the direction of the tiny little cat. When Mauschen was close enough, the cat suddenly jumped down from the tree. What happened next shocked everyone and seemed to defy the laws of nature. Instead of attacking the kitty, Mauschen appeared to welcome her as a new friend!

The two furry black animals soon became the best of friends and formed a very close relationship. For the next seven years, the two were never far from one another, so when the zoo decided to expand Mauschen’s enclosure and separate the two, they did not take the situation lightly.

However, despite how well they got along, zookeepers had to keep the cat out because other bears were being brought in and they might not like having the kitty around. However, it soon became apparent that the best friends were not adjusting to their forced separation very well.

All night long Muschi would cry outside the bear enclosure as the health of both animals began to decline. They were depressed, it was too heartbreaking to see how the separation was taking such a heavy toll on them. So rather than risk causing further stress, the animal odd-couple was reunited and were once again free to live together in Mauschen’s newly renovated enclosure. They quickly picked up right where they left off and were playing and cuddling together in no time.
