87-Year-Old Woman Is Rescued By Neighbor’s Dog After Almost Freezing In The Snow

If you have a dog in your life, you already realize that they can do some pretty amazing things. Perhaps you have taught your dog how to do some basic obedience, such as sit, stay or lay down on command. You might have even taught them something interesting, such as how to fetch you a drink from the refrigerator. As you probably know, however, you don’t have to teach your dog a trick to know that they are capable of doing something incredible. They just seem to know how to do it sometimes on instinct.

That was the case with Midnight, a 4-year-old black Labrador mix that lived with his owner in Minnesota. One afternoon, during the polar vortex, his owner took him outside while he was out taking out the trash and Midnight realized that something was wrong. Tim Curfman, his owner had the following to say: “She had her ears perked up looking at me. She doesn’t normally do that. Sometimes you get that feeling something’s up.”

Midnight took Tim to a spot on the other side of the house. That is where they found Noreen, the older neighbor who had fallen in the snow. She was out trying to fill a bird feeder and once she had fallen, she couldn’t get up.

“We figured she was out there at least a half an hour,” Tim said. “She could not have gotten up because her gloves had gotten wet and she didn’t have enough strength in her fingers to push herself up. Nothing around the corner to get up and get a hold of either.”

Tim picked up Noreen from the snow and took her home. His wife helped her to put on dry clothes.

Fortunately, Noreen didn’t sustain any serious injuries. She is convinced that Midnight saved her just in time.
