What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you think about lions? Most people tend to think about what we see in the movies and on many television shows. With the popularity of The Lion King, we often consider them to be the king of the jungle and certainly, we wouldn’t want to come across one of them unawares. There is no doubt that they are majestic creatures that deserve a lot of respect in the animal kingdom but they aren’t impervious to harm.
Every creature on earth is going to face some type of trial and it times, lions may face similar situations. As we often recognize, however, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger and for a lion, they already have plenty of strength to start with. The two cousins in this video may be kings of the jungle, but they are about to prove to each other that they are stronger together than apart.
Life is always going to be a struggle in the wild, and that becomes painfully obvious in this video from the new series on BBC, Dynasties. Sir David Attenborough describes the scene when Red the lion is up against a pack of wild hyenas.
There were some 20 hyenas that were ganging up on Red as he was out in the brush. You can tell that he was in some trouble and the hyenas were meaning business.
When they got closer, they began surrounding Red and attacking him from behind. He may be larger than one of them but could never stand alone against a pack of 20 hyenas. You could tell that he realized he was outnumbered and in trouble so he started to roar, hoping that someone would hear his cry for help.
No lion could hope to stand up against that many hyenas but fortunately, his cousin heard his cry for help and rushed to the rescue.
With one lion, the pack of hyenas was on top of things but as soon as two lions were there, they took off for high ground. They knew that their chances were much lower with two lions fighting back to back. Tatu the lion had arrived just in time to help out his family member. They even have a wonderful reunion after it is all over.
