Many people look back to the time when Princess Diana was still alive and think about what type of a style icon she really was. She was somebody to follow, and she was in the news often for the right reasons.
Many years later, Kate Middleton is now holding a similar role. Although she never met her former mother-in-law because Diana passed in 1997, there does seem to be a strong influence in play.
When you look back at the style that Princess Diana had, it’s hard to deny the fact that she was someone to follow. Many publications, including Elle, Vanity Fair, and Harper’s Bazaar covered her choices in fashion on every occasion. Even almost 3 decades after her death, people still look at her in that way.
Many people have also had a strong fondness of Princess Kate after she married Prince William in 2011. She was then the senior member of the royal family and she also has an impeccable style sense.
While Princess Diana was often considered the People’s Princess, Princess Kate is often considered the ‘Children’s Princess’. She does add her own style to the outfit she chooses, but she still pays tribute to Lady Diana on occasion.
Ever since 2011 when Kate Middleton joined the Royal family, she has selected something that has given tribute to her late mother-in-law many times. Prince William had given her one of those pieces, an 18-karat sapphire diamond ring that belonged to his mother when she was engaged to King Charles III.
For a similar outfit to what Kate was wearing for their engagement photos, she tried to match the color of the ring and it was similar to what Diana and Charles did when they announced their engagement.
Even the wedding dress that Kate Middleton chose was similar to Princess Diana’s and when she left the hospital after the birth of her second son, she wore something similar to what Diana wore when she gave birth to Prince Harry.
In September 2022, Kate Middleton was wearing an iconic piece of jewelry from her late mother-in-law. They were meeting Ukraine’s First Lady at Buckingham Palace, and she wore something that is often considered to be a symbol of mourning.
It was a three-string bracelet that Princess Diana wore when she toured Hong Kong with King Charles III. It was absolutely beautiful then and it is still beautiful today.
Many people consider the Princess of Wales to be one of the best things that happened in the royal family in many years. Some even said that if she ever left the family, similar to how Harry and Megan Markel did, it would ‘be a disaster’.
Tina Brown, a royal author had the following to say about those issues: “It would, I think, crumble at the moment without her because she’s the only modern, beautiful woman who’s well-educated, substantial in herself, who’s actually wanting to commit herself to the rigors of this institution. Not many young women could do that.”
Someone else who spoke on the issue was Katie Nicholl, another royal correspondent. She feels that Kate Middleton is not trying to be exactly like Princess Diana. She said: “I think she was so aware of the comparison right from the outset, but despite the weight of that engagement ring on her finger, and the significance that that holds and the comparisons it inevitably draws, she is actually a very different woman.”
