We have heard many stories about transgender’s and their transition from one gender to another. This includes something that has recently been revealed, a parent and child in Brazil, who transitioned together.
The couple, who one time were identified as a mother and son are both transgender, and now they consider themselves to be father and son. Since public healthcare in their country became free and accessible, it allowed for their joint transition.
Ten-year-old Gustavo and 38-year-old Raphael were both assigned as a female at birth but now they have documented their journey with more than 24,000 followers and identify as male.
According to some reports, Raffaella stopped identifying as female last year. Gustavo started transitioning when he was four years old and since then, he has been both a cisgender and transgender character in films.
Both Raffaella and Gestapo finished their transition in San Pablo, Brazil, free of charge. Raffaella is at the Campo Limpo Municipal Hospital. Gustavo is at the Transdisciplinary Outpatient Clinic for Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation at the Institute of Psychiatry and the Pediatric Endocrinology Unit.
Raffaella spoke about his son’s decision, saying: “It didnât have any influence, but he [Gustavo] gave me strength and courage to face [the transition]”. On the other hand, Gustavo said that it wasn’t difficult to call his mother, dad.
This is a transition that has been difficult for some to grasp, and they sometimes are upset that people continue to use their deadnames. These are the female names given to them at birth and used before they transitioned.
Since transitioning, both Raffaella and Gestapo have attended celebratory transgender events with each other. The community has embraced them and they are both grateful for the experience.
