There are times when performers get together on stage and even though they are completely different in the music they sing, they work together perfectly. That was what we saw when Lady Gaga joined Metallica for a live performance.
It was on February 12, 2017, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles where the 59th annual Grammy Awards were being held. The frontman for Metallica, James Hetfield was out there giving an epic performance of ‘Moth into Flame’ and he was standing along with Lady Gaga.
You would probably think that this strange combination of singers would not land well, but it actually sounded awesome. In fact, we only wish that they were on stage more frequently with each other.
This partnership was started in a rather strange way. It occurred at Bradley Cooper’s house when a casual dinner party was taking place. Metallica’s drummer, Lars Ulrich was there and so was Lady Gaga.
Ulrich said: “I was at a dinner party [with Gaga], and we were sitting next to each other… and I thought, ‘Wait a minute, this would be cool.’ So I said, ‘We’re doing the Grammys in a couple of months, do you wanna join us?’ and she was just, ‘Yeah, that would be great!'”
There were a number of issues that occurred that night, including the performance introduction not mentioning Metallica. In addition, Hetfield had a problem with his microphone so his powerful voice was now not giving anything to the song.
Thankfully, Lady Gaga was there with some quick thinking and she invited him to share her microphone. Suddenly, it turned an epic metal song into a duet that is well worth watching twice.
