Fans of actor Gene Hackman are mourning after he was found dead in his home in Santa Fe. The details surrounding his death are still under investigation.
95-year-old Gene Hackman and his wife, 63-year-old Betsy Arakawa were found dead in their home. One of their dogs was also found dead in the home along with them.
It occurred at their house in Santa Fe when the Hollywood actor and his wife, who was a classical pianist were found inside. According to reports, a caretaker for the community discovered that they were inside and not moving, and he called for assistance.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff in New Mexico said that at this time, an ‘active investigation’ into the death is ongoing. The department said: “We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail.”
There are some questions surrounding the deaths, despite the fact that they do not believe foul play was a factor. Some pills were found scattered on a countertop near where she fell to the floor. In addition, Gene Hackman seems to have fallen suddenly and was found in that position.
Some felt that it may have been a case of carbon monoxide poisoning. The local gas company was called out to the scene, but it doesn’t appear as if evidence of carbon monoxide poisoning was found.
Hackman and Arakawa were married in 1991. Previously, he was married to Faye Maltese and they have three children together.
As an actor, he appeared in many movies over the span of his career. He won two BAFTAs and two Oscars for his efforts. Some of his better-known movies include Mississippi Burning, Superman, and Bonnie and Clyde.
He spoke about his decision to retire in 2009, saying: “The straw that broke the camel’s back was actually a stress test that I took in New York.
“The doctor advised me that my heart wasn’t in the kind of shape that I should be putting it under any stress.”
Hackman never officially retired, he just quietly disappeared from the scene.
