We all have to make decisions in life but that doesn’t necessarily mean that every decision is going to suit everyone properly. Sometimes, it’s just best to make the decision and move on but if you are going to post about it online, you can expect some criticism.
One family that found this out very well is the Werts. Christie and Wesley started their family five years ago by blending it upon getting married. This included merging Christie’s daughter, Megan, with his children, Austin and Dakota.
They had no idea that eventually, their time together would take a turn and they would end up with Levi, a miracle baby. Levi was there through adoption and they had to wait 16 months for the process to finalize. Eventually, they brought the baby boy home.
There’s a twist to this unusual adoption story that many people would miss at first. Levi’s biological mother was actually Wesley’s former partner, but she had a problem with drug use during pregnancy and passed away four days after his premature birth.
When they found out about Levi, Wesley was also told about his ex-wife dying. Christie, his wife had also experienced foster homes when she was a child and she wanted Levi to have a stable upbringing.
The Werts traveled to Texas from Ohio to meet Levi with the child protection services. It was everything that Christie had dreamed about. She said: “When I walked in and saw this blond-haired, blue-eyed baby, I immediately fell in love. It was a very surreal feeling. This was my son.”
It can be challenging to adopt someone, especially when they are an infant. This family also faced additional obstacles, including relocating to Texas after selling their home. It was a legal battle that involved the termination of his biological father’s paternal rights.
16 months and many interviews, court appearances, and home inspections later, they were able to finalize Levi’s adoption. Finally, they took the baby home.
Despite the beauty of what took place, Christie was criticized by Internet users who were questioning her decision to share that story.
People were saying how Levi was going to see it when he grew up and could end up with depression. Others said that it was wrong to share something like this on social media.
There were also others who were happy for the couple and for the little baby who now had a forever home.
I guess you can’t please all of the people all of the time.
