It’s Official: Google Maps Renames The ‘Gulf Of America’

Ever since President Donald Trump came into office, he has made some changes. Executive orders were signed on a number of subjects, but one that many didn’t consider a priority was renaming the Gulf of Mexico.

Donald Trump did put through an executive order to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. If you look at Google Maps, you will see that it has actually been put into place at this point in time.

Some of the different executive orders that were signed by Donald Trump covered everything from transgender women participating in women’s sports to removing paper straws from government facilities. This has caused a lot of people to question him, but he is just making good on the promises that he made during his campaign.

When Donald Trump was speaking about the change of names in his speech, he said: “America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on Earth, inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world. A short time from now, we are going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.”

He then referred to the Gulf as ‘an integral asset to our once burgeoning Nation and has remained an indelible part of America’, and ‘a crucial artery for America’s early trade and global commerce’.

Mexico’s president did object to the name change, but the Trump administration announced that it was official. Google confirmed that they would be making the change on Google Maps but it would only change, depending upon the location of the viewer.

This also caused some confusion on social media as people did not recognize that their location played into the name of that large body of water. It seems as if you see ‘Gulf of America’ if you live in the United States but if you zoom out, it changes to Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America).
