One of the things that Pres. Donald Trump has quickly become known for is taking aim at the transgender community. Included among the several executive orders that were signed since he took office less than a month ago are some that focus on that community.
For example, one order that Pres. Trump signed keeps transgender women from being housed in female prisons. Another stopped transgender individuals from serving in the military.
There is now a third order that is focused on the transgender community and it was signed on February 5. According to that order, transgender women will be banned from competing in female sports.
The order is entitled: ‘Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports’ and Trump would like the International Olympic Committee to work along with it. He wants the committee to ‘change everything having to do with the Olympics and having to do with this absolutely ridiculous subject’ and he wants it done before the Summer Games come to Los Angeles in 2028.
The Secretary of State’s office is empowered by the order to pressure the International Olympics committee to amend standards that govern the sporting events that take place in the Olympics. This is done ‘to promote fairness, safety and the best interests of female athletes by ensuring that eligibility for participation in women’s sporting events is determined according to sex and not gender identity or testosterone reduction’.
The order is also targeting schools and athletic associations that deny women single-sex sports and changing rooms that are single-sex. The order would seek immediate reinforcement against those facilities.
The Department of Homeland Security and Secretary of State are spelled out in the order with some specific instructions. They are instructed to ‘review and adjust, as needed, policies permitting admission to the United States of males seeking to participate in women’s sports’.
Before signing the order, Trump said: “From now on, women’s sports will be only for women.
“We’ve gotten the woke lunacy out of our military and now we’re getting it out of women’s sports.”
In speaking specifically about the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He said: “In Los Angeles in 2028, my administration will not stand by and watch men beat and batter female athletes. We’re not going to let it happen.
“Just to make sure, I’m also directing our secretary of homeland security to deny any and all visa applications made by men attempting to fraudulently enter the US while identifying as women athletes to try and get into the games.”
