Selena Gomez Loses Over 700,000 Followers After Her ‘Ugly Cry’ Video On Instagram

When you have a large following on social media, you sometimes need to watch what you say and do because they can dry up as quickly as they arrive. Selena Gomez is now learning this for herself.

Recently, Selena Gomez posted a video responding to Donald Trump’s new executive orders and has lost over 700,000 Instagram followers. That video has since been deleted, but it is still living on elsewhere online.

There have been a lot of opinions associated with some of the amendments that President Trump has made to the way the United States does business. Some of the changes that he has already made include those to the immigration laws, among others that have drawn some attention.

One person who was upset over the new executive orders on immigration and deportation of illegal immigrants was singer Selena Gomez. She shared a video on Instagram of herself crying over the move, and it was in ‘ugly cry’.

The 32-year-old singer said: “I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, I don’t understand. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

After she started losing hundreds of thousands of followers, she deleted the video and then added a follow-up message: “Apparently it’s not okay to show empathy for people.”

One person who spoke about this move by Gomez is Paul Lenglet, co-founder and editor of CritiqueJeu. He said: “Selena Gomez had a great end to 2024, but the start of 2025 has not been so gentle on her.

“The star has been facing many criticisms over her participation and performance on Emilia Pérez, a film directed and filmed in Paris, but with a story that takes place in Mexico.”

He is also putting the CritiqueJeu number of Instagram followers lost at over 800,000.

Donald Trump appointed Former US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director Tom Homan as the ‘border czar’ with the order to cut down on immigration into the United States. The military has been deployed to the Mexican border to help and Trump is letting others know that the United States borders are closed.

He said: “If you’re in the country illegally, you’re on the table, because it’s not OK to, you know, violate the laws of this country.

“You got to remember, every time you enter this country illegally, you violated a crime under Title Eight, the United States Code 1325, it’s a crime.”
