Reports are beginning to come in from those who lost loved ones in the tragic air accident that occurred Wednesday in Washington DC. It took place when American Airlines Flight 5342 collided with a Black Hawk helicopter, resulting in the loss of everyone on board.
A father has now spoken up after he lost his wife and 12-year-old daughter in the crash. The accident occurred on January 29 just before 9 PM. A PSA Airlines aircraft, owned by American Airlines, collided with a Black Hawk U.S. Army helicopter over the Potomac River. The flight was on its way into Ronald Reagan National Airport when the disaster took place.
The plane, which had 60 passengers and four crew members plummeted into the Potomac River along with the helicopter. There is still an ongoing recovery mission, although all on board the aircraft and helicopter are believed to have perished.
The man’s wife and his 12-year-old daughter were on board. His young daughter was a cancer survivor earlier in her life.
Andy Beyer lost his 42-year-old wife, Justyna, and his daughter, Brielle. They were heading back to Washington DC after taking part in the US Figure Skating National Development Camp.
He discussed his daughter, saying: “She was just such a fighter in everything she did. She just lived life to the fullest with everything.
“She was so proud of herself in figure skating for the progress she had made… Making that team was one of her life goals. And she achieved it. And she was just so, so proud of herself.”
Beyer was on his way to the airport with their 6-year-old son to pick up his daughter and wife when he realized something had gone wrong. He said: “When it was time for the plane to land, they hadn’t landed [and] we couldn’t get text messages through.”
He got even more nervous when he saw the emergency service vehicles. Eventually, a friend of his who was an air traffic controller confirmed that the crash had taken place.
He said: “I didn’t have a lot of hope unfortunately, we had a good cry about it right then and there and then we had to go in with the family waiting room and everything before we, hours later, got any official word of what had fully happened.”
