Betty White is one of those celebrities who has gained the hearts of people around the world. Prior to her death in 2021, it seemed as if she was being talked about in a positive way almost daily.
On occasion, we may hear somebody air out some dirty laundry and they may drag other people into it. Sally Struthers is someone who did that recently, and Betty White got caught in the crossfire.
Sally Struthers was talking about the creator of All of the Family Norman Lear as well as speaking of Betty White, saying that she was ‘totally fat shamed’ by Betty.
It happened when she appeared on the Larry Saperstein and Jacob Bellotti podcast ‘Let’s Talk about That!’ That was in January, and she spoke about the former Golden Girl star, saying that she ‘didn’t have such a great experience’ with her.
Struthers went on to say: “I know everybody loves her. They loved her so much” which is a very true statement. She then went on to give the details.
Struthers was at Betty White’s house at the time working on a show pilot and White’s housekeepers had brought some cookies. When Struthers reached for one, Betty White said in front of everyone:
“Oh, I wouldn’t do that if I were you dear, you don’t need a cookie.”
Struthers admitted that Betty White ‘Totally fat-shamed me in front of the rest of the people in the room.’ In the end, she thought that Betty White was not very nice.
Someone else who was discussed was Norman Lear, who died in 2023 at the age of 101. Struthers said that Archie Bunker himself, played by actor Carol O’Connor came up with the idea for All in the Family and Lear stole it. He then ‘pretended for the next 52 years that he created it.’
Struthers played Gloria in All in the Family in more than 180 episodes and won 2 Emmys. She was most recently seen in A Man on the Inside, on Netflix.
