Any death can have an impact on us in ways that we can’t even imagine. It is also difficult when someone we love has such an experience, as we mourn along with them.
On January 7, 2025, Meghan Markle made a difficult announcement. Her beagle, Guy, had died. Suddenly, an outpouring of support was coming into the Duchess of Sussex with many people talking about the loss of their own pet.
Meghan shared some moments of Guy being with the family in an Instagram video. Having fun at the beach, being out in the garden, or just relaxing at home were among the enjoyable times they had together.
She spoke of the comments about how she met Guy, as she had adopted him from a kill shelter. Guy was at the County Animal Shelter in Kentucky, and he was going to be euthanized within days.
Meghan said: “I swooped him up….and fell in love. They referred to him as ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I named him ‘Guy.’ And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for.”
She said that the dog was there for her in every chapter of her life. He was there when she was on the legal series, Suits, when she got engaged to Prince Harry and even when she became a mother.
She said that the dog was always by her side, sharing in her joys and milestones.
It’s interesting that when she moved to the UK, she spoke about some of the health issues that Guy had dealt with. He underwent surgeries after an accident and had to be at the clinic for an extended time. Doctors thought he would never walk again but with the right care, he recovered brilliantly.
Meghan also wanted people to know that Guy had passed because he will be in an upcoming Netflix series, ‘With Love, Meghan.’
She said: “I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too.
“I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too.”
In the end, she referred to Guy as “My sweet Guy, You filled my life in ways you’ll never know ❤️🩹.”
We hope that she finds comfort during this difficult time.
