Elton John’s Husband Had To Help Him Off Stage Because He ‘Lost His Eyesight’

Many of the celebrities we have followed for years are getting older. As a result, we are watching them deteriorate and sometimes, the health issues they face take us by surprise.

Sir Elton John, who has entertained people for decades with his music and his unusual stage presence has recently faced a significant health challenge. He revealed it when he said that he has ‘lost his eyesight’.

At the gala night for The Devil Wears Prada musical at the Dominion Theatre in London, he spoke to the audience, saying: “It is hard for me to see [the show] but I love to hear it.”

Sir Elton was instrumental in the success of the musical, as he wrote some of the music behind it. He said: “I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews because, as you know, I have lost my eyesight.”

The 77-year-old entertainer was then led off the stage by his husband, David Furnish. Undoubtedly, he has faced some setbacks but he continues to do what he can.

Elton John spoke to Good Morning America in late November, saying that a severe eye infection while in the south of France had caused him to lose the eyesight in his right eye.

He said: “It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see. My left eye is not the greatest.”

As a result, he couldn’t fully appreciate the charity gala for The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical. He did say: “I have lost my sight and I haven’t been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed listening to it.”

He also spoke about his husband and how he has assisted him through this difficult time. He spoke of him as being ‘my rock’ and providing him with the emotional support he needed.

Sir Elton spoke on Instagram in September, giving an update about his recovery from an eye infection and expressing his thanks toward the medical team and family for their support.
