There are times when we may not feel as if we are given the proper respect at our place of employment. It can happen to anyone, but sometimes things go to a level that no one could’ve expected.
The woman in the following story was told something by her employer that was beyond reason. They said that they had high standards and that she wasn’t pretty enough to work for the company.
This took the woman by surprise, but she didn’t realize that her husband was listening. Read this story to find out how he was able to handle the situation in a way that will leave you cheering.
Sophia recognized me instantly but quickly masked it with a professional tone. “Oh, really? How wonderful,” she said, trying to hide her discomfort.
I continued, “Yes, but my wife came home upset after being told she wasn’t ‘pretty enough’ to work here.”
The color drained from Sophia’s face.
“Oh, um, I’m not sure who said that. We have high standards,” she stammered.
“High standards? Or shallow ones?” I challenged. I continued, “My wife is beautiful, inside and out, and didn’t deserve that humiliation.”
I asked to speak to the manager. Lisa, the manager, listened to my story, her expression stern. She called Sophia into her office.
After a few minutes, Lisa returned, apologizing and inviting my wife, Emma, to reapply, promising a fair interview.
Emma was hesitant but agreed. A week later, she was warmly welcomed and got the job. Sophia was transferred to another branch. Justice was served, and Emma thrived in her role.
We now laugh about it, knowing no one will ever make her feel unworthy again.
