The woman in the following story was told something by her employer that was beyond reason. They said that they had high standards and that she wasn’t pretty enough to work for the company.

Sophia recognized me instantly but quickly masked it with a professional tone. “Oh, really? How wonderful,” she said, trying to hide her discomfort.
I continued, “Yes, but my wife came home upset after being told she wasn’t ‘pretty enough’ to work here.”
The color drained from Sophia’s face.
“Oh, um, I’m not sure who said that. We have high standards,” she stammered.
“High standards? Or shallow ones?” I challenged. I continued, “My wife is beautiful, inside and out, and didn’t deserve that humiliation.”
I asked to speak to the manager. Lisa, the manager, listened to my story, her expression stern. She called Sophia into her office.
After a few minutes, Lisa returned, apologizing and inviting my wife, Emma, to reapply, promising a fair interview.
