The world was surprised when Ellen DeGeneres and her wife decided to leave the United States recently and make a permanent move to Cotswold, England. Although it has not yet been confirmed why they made the move, some people feel as if it was politically motivated.
What they weren’t expecting was for the area where they moved to be affected by a severe flood shortly after arriving. When Storm Bert came through the area, the severe rainfall caused flooding and damage to their property.
The 43-acre property and multimillion-dollar home located on a River Thames tributary was flooded after the river overflowed its banks. The property had additional issues because the roads in the area were submerged up to 5 feet deep, and many residents were not able to come or go.
As of yet, Storm Bert has claimed at least five lives in the UK and the damage is widespread.
Ellen DeGeneres had moved to the UK after the 2024 US presidential election. She wanted a quieter life, although they had already purchased the home prior to the election taking place.
On the multimillion-dollar estate property, they have a converted farmhouse into a luxury home that was supposed to be a peaceful retreat for Ellen and her wife. Flooding has now disrupted that plan temporarily.
According to a local citizen, “The flood waters are rising by the hour. This is the worst I have seen it in years.” Many locals have been isolated as a result of the flooding and the winds, which have reached a speed of up to 80 miles an hour.
