Rod Stewart is one of the best-known rock singers of our era. He also has performed many classical music hits because of his raspy voice and people love going to see him in concert.
There is something else that Rod Stewart is known for, and that is being a father. He has been in many different relationships but five of those resulted in the birth of a total of eight children.
The oldest child that he had was born when he was only 17 and they placed the child up for adoption. There was going to be a reconnection in later years, however, and it was totally unexpected.
Here’s a little about his children.
Kimberly Stewart: This is his second child, born to his ex-wife, Alana Stewart. She was born in 1979 and was raised by both parents until they separated in 1984.
Eventually, Kimberly would make her own path as a celebrity in the fashion field. She has been on the cover of many publications, including Tatler, American Vogue, and Elle.
She opened her own company, The Realm by Kimberly Stewart, in 2021. She said that she couldn’t stand looking at the chaos in her father’s pantry and kitchen so she came up with the idea during quarantine.
She got a lot of traction when she began posting information about her services online.
Sean Stewart: The oldest son of Rod Stewart, he was born in 1980. He also has a music career but is perhaps best known for appearing on the reality series, Sons of Hollywood in 2007.
That show focused on Sean along with a number of other stars as they navigated life in Hollywood. Sean is well known for music and television but he also is involved in the fashion industry. This includes launching a unisex line.
Ruby Stewart: Ruby is Rod Stewart’s fourth child and she was born in 1987 when he was dating model Kelly Emberg. She also has an entrepreneurial spirit and became involved in a clothing line that specializes in protective sportswear for women.
On Instagram, Ruby shows up as the founder and CEO of that brand, which creates unique styles for active women.
RenΓ©e Stewart: The fifth child of Rod Stewart was born to model Rachel Hunter in 1992. RenΓ©e also has an interest in the arts, but in this case, she is a dancer.
She also is interested in wellness and shares her passion as a teacher of both meditation and yoga.
Liam Stewart: Liam McAlister Stewart was born in 1994 when Rod was married to Rachel Hunter. He began pursuing hockey in high school and later played for the Spokane Chiefs in the Western Hockey League.
Eventually, he would compete in the Elite Ice Hockey League after he traveled overseas. He would later play professionally in New Zealand.
Alastair Stewart: Rod’s seventh child was born to model Penny Lancaster in 2005. Unlike many of his siblings, he tries to stay out of the spotlight but he also is passionate about swimming and competing in swimming.
He was interested in getting into the Olympics and Rod Stewart supported that by building a training pool at his UK mansion. Along with being an athlete, he has done some modeling, just like his mother.
Aiden Stewart: The youngest child of Rod Stewart born to Penny Lancaster showed up in 2011. He is still a youngster but he is already facing some challenges in life.
Aiden had a panic attack during a youth basketball game in 2022 and they thought it was a heart attack. He said: “He was going blue and was unconscious until he calmed down. It was scary, but it turned out to be a panic attack.”
Sarah Streeter: This leads us to Rod’s firstborn, Sarah. She was born on November 6, 1963, when Rod Stewart was only 17 years old. His girlfriend, Susanna Boffee, and he placed Sarah up for adoption.
Rod admitted later in life that he was ‘stone broke’ and couldn’t support a child at the time. Early in her life, Sarah was in foster care but eventually was adopted at the age of five by Gerald and Evelyn Thubron and they raised her as their own.
When Sarah was 18, she learned about the identity of her famous biological father but it wasn’t until 2007 after her adoptive parents passed away that she reconnected with him.
Sarah had faced a number of challenges in her personal life, including years of substance abuse, especially when she was in her early 30s. This was also heightened by grieving over the loss of her mother and she struggled with crack cocaine addiction.
Sarah wonders at times why she is still here and she regrets the addiction as well as the pain it caused her loved ones. She still feels that it is important to share her experience, however, saying: “But I’ve chosen to talk about it because I think it’s important to be honest and to show that even if you hit rock-bottom, you can get over it.”
Her father, Rod, supported her during her recovery. She had confided in him early about her struggles and he was already familiar with those struggles, as he had also gone through a bout of substance abuse.
Sarah said: “It’s not all new to him, of course. His eldest son, Sean, has had drug problems in the past and Kimberly had issues with alcohol, although they’re all doing really well now.”
Sarah had shown up at a recording studio in order to meet Rod Stewart, and they weren’t sure if her claims were true. When guitarist Jim Cregan saw her, however, he noticed the resemblance and the two of them did meet cautiously. Eventually, Rod would sign emails and cards as ‘Dad’.
Sarah said: “I’m not engaging with that person but with Rod the man β my dad. I feel like I am a genuine part of his extended family, which is wonderful.” She has met about half of her half-siblings as of now and feels that they are a friendly bunch. She does feel that their different backgrounds do make a difference.
She says that her sisters are ‘very glamorous and very beautifully turned out’ sometimes making her feel self-conscious.
Despite the differences, she values being a part of the Stewart family. She has been with her biological father a number of times and reflecting on that journey, she is appreciative for the relationship she has with him.
