Richard Gere is more than a popular actor, he is a household name. Many remember him for his part in Pretty Woman, but he is much more than an actor. He is also a family man.
Richard Gere has been very committed to his wife and children. This is especially true of his younger children, and he focuses on family values as well as providing privacy for his brood.
Undoubtedly, he has gone through many of the phases of fatherhood and when you look at the examples of his three sons, you can see that he has been very successful.
Gere was a stepfather when he got married to Carey Lowell in the early 2000. Her young daughter, Hannah, was from a previous marriage but he was willing to go all in. He even said that his role as a stepfather was ‘an easy ride.’
It seemed as if he was not always interested in having children, which may have caused the end of his marriage to his first wife, Cindy Crawford. He hesitated to start a family, but it seemed as if he eventually had a change of heart.
In 2000, his first son, Homer James Jigme Gere was born when Gere was 50 years old. He would marry his wife two years later and they were divorced in 2013.
Homer was a very important part of Gere’s life and when he was two years old, he was described by Gere as being ‘the joy of my life.’ His career decisions were even influenced by the youngster.
He said: “If I have to be away for long, I talk to him about it, and if there is a problem, I don’t take up the project. Your family is more important than anything.”
Homer has remained out of the spotlight for the most part but they did appear in May 2024 together on the red carpet briefly.
About two decades later, he was married to his wife, Alejandra Silva in 2018. In 2019, Alexander was born. Again, Gere was happy with the birth and at the age of 69, he was ready to go again. They would soon have another son.
This really cemented the commitment that Richard Gere had to his family and their privacy. Even Albert, who was born to Silva in a different relationship is kept secluded in family life.
We don’t see very much of their youngest son or Alexander. When they do post pictures on social media, they keep the faces blurred.
It’s nice to know that some things never change and we look forward to more as Gere continues his journey as a father dedicated to his family.
