A boxing match is not something that is planned and takes place overnight. There is typically a buildup of anticipation until the fight actually takes place.
Fans of boxing have been waiting anxiously for the bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. After watching it, however, they are feeling somewhat let down.
Jake Paul, who at one time was a YouTuber but changed over to heavyweight boxing finally got his match with Mike Tyson. It happened in Arlington, Texas at the AT&T stadium.
Originally, the fight had been scheduled for July but it was rescheduled. After the smoke cleared and eight rounds ended, Paul was given the unanimous decision as the victor.
People had been waiting for Mike Tyson to return to the ring and this match would’ve been his big chance. This boxing match was also unique because Netflix was live-streaming it, which was a first.
After the fight ended, fans took to social media to express their concern and disappointment. Many of them were even wondering why they stayed up late to watch such a disappointing match.
One viewer wrote on Twitter, that it was the ‘most boring boxing fight in the history of boxing.’ They even compared it to Taker vs Goldberg, but they said that this fight was worse.
Another social media user said it was a ‘horrible fight.’ They then accused the entire thing of being staged.
Many other users were quick to talk about how it was boring or perhaps just a pathetic fight. One user said that it was a ‘charity fight for Jake Paul and he couldn’t manage to knock out a 58-year-old Tyson.’
Perhaps the reason why the fight was pulled in July should’ve been a glimpse into what happened in November. They were going to fight but Tyson was forced to pull out because of an ‘ulcer flare-up.’
It was a sold-out event and unbelievably, some of the 65,000 people in attendance paid up to $2 million to watch. Of course, those were the VIP tickets, but I don’t know how happy they were when the fight was over.
Millions of people also watched it worldwide as it streamed on Netflix.
Nobody knows for sure how much money was paid to the winner and loser, but it is undoubtedly a considerable sum. Paul even hinted at the money during a press conference, saying: “I’m here to make $40 million and knock out a legend.”
Tyson is thought to have made $20 million for losing the fight.
Tyson is worth an estimated $10 million and Paul may be worth about $80 million. That’s a lot of money, but if they made tens of millions for winning or losing, it’s still a big payday.
